We are always happy to meet with couples to discuss a church wedding at either St Mary’s or St Michael’s.
If you live in the parish, matters are usually straightforward, If you don't live in the parish, there are now several ways in which couples can qualify to be married in one of our churches, for instance if parents have been married here.
The first step is a meeting with the Wedding Clerk to confirm the date and fill in the Banns application form with details of bride and groom. There is a booking fee of £100 at this stage, which is non returnable. At this meeting, we can discuss details like music and hymns and whether a choir, organ or bells are wanted and any wishes about flowers. This is a good opportunity to bring up any queries about the service.
The Banns (a statement of the couple’s intention to marry) are read in church for three consecutive Sundays in the month before the wedding and many couples like to come to church to hear this.
Nearer the wedding date, we can meet again to make sure that all the details are covered and the Clerk is always available to discuss any problems or queries.
We can also offer an individual meeting with the priest who will be conducting the ceremony and a rehearsal in church.
